Members of the Trust take a high level overview, similar to that of shareholders but instead of holding shares, they offer a guarantee.  They delegate general power to the Board to oversee the management of the Trust.

Nick Greenhalgh

Nick has a deep experience of SEN, having worked within special schools at a senior leadership level and the wider related sector for a number of years. Additionally, he has experience with and an ongoing interest in management consultancy. Nick is enthusiastic about helping organisations perform high quality work and meeting their objectives. Assisting board-level governance in schools is both a good fit for his skill-set and something that he is passionate about.

Becca Mattingley

Becca was educated in North Devon before studying Language and Communication and Research Methods at Cardiff University.  She was then employed in a variety of research and policy roles at Sport Wales until 2016. Since 2016, she has worked as a self-employed Research and Evaluation consultant on a variety of projects with sport, education, health and the voluntary sector. She is an Associate Consultant and splits her time between Wales and the South West of England.

Joan Watkins

Joan is passionate in her support of the Education and Development of our most vulnerable children at Transforming Futures.  With 42 years experience as a Nurse and Midwife, Joan is retired.  She is a former Plymouth City Councillor Cabinet Member Children Services and currently stands as a Councillor at Newport City Council.  Joan has been involved with Transforming Futures (formally known as Ace School Plymouth) from its inception, becoming a Governor 2012 and then Chair of Governors 2014.  Joan was a former Trustee for the Trust.  Joan is a War Widow, and mother to a son and daughter with five Grandsons age 6 to 20 years.

Paul Winterton

Paul is a retired teacher, having become a secondary science teacher after a career in hospitality. He worked in secondary schools before becoming a special education teacher for excluded pupils. He held a range of leadership roles within the special education sector. Paul was a qualified school inspector and also held an RSC appointed Trustee post for a failing school to help short term turnaround before the school was taken on by a successful trust.

Peter McDonnell

Peter is the College Director/Principal of the University of Plymouth International College (UPIC). Working with a team of highly professional sales and marketing, student services and academic teaching staff, and he is responsible for all aspects of the operation of the College. This includes the recruitment, induction, teaching and support of students undertaking University Foundation, First year undergraduate and pre-masters level study at the College; strategic business development; staff employment and development; and, managing the partner relationship with the University of Plymouth.

Prior to taking up this position, he served in the Royal Navy for 36 years. Career highlights include sea Command of HMS ANGLESEY and HMS VICTORIOUS. He also spent time as the Career Manager officers of the submarine service Warfare branch, and three years as the Officer Commanding the Royal Naval Submarine School – an appointment that sparked his passion and love of education and professional development.

Peter joined ACE Plymouth as a Governor in 2014 becoming a Trustee when the MAT formed in 2016 and more recently a Member of the Trust since January 2024. He is passionate about providing young people with the opportunity to flourish in a safe and supportive environment.
